Holding space to heal

Dominiece started working on her book in 2020 and self-published it in June of 2023. So much had changed in her life as she wrote the book, and she was able to add that depth to the writing.

We oftentimes think about our healing journey where we give someone else the responsibility of really doing it for us, or being in charge of it for us, but I strongly believe that we are capable of healing ourselves.

People may often assume healing is done for us by other people, through talk therapy or seeing a doctor. As much as you can gain extra support from the people around you, you need to also be an active agent in your healing journey for it to be real and long-lasting.

I think a lot of times we give our power away, especially in the Western world where we idolize doctors and therapists and all of these people and put them as the experts.

Healing as remembering

Dominiece suggests thinking about healing as remembering.

We are all born as these perfect beings and we forget that along our life journey, and so for me, healing is not [about] trying to get to be someone else. Healing is like remembering, an unmasking, getting to the core of who you are authentically, and so that is what [my] book is really about.

Dominiece Clifton

In her book, Dominiece discusses healing as remembering and shares seven different types of somatic approaches to getting back in touch with yourself to begin this journey.

She shares things that directly impacted and helped her life, and encourages the reader to own their power in having the ability to change their lives.

Dominiece’s advice to listeners

Recognize the power that you have to hold space for yourself to heal.

With her book, Dominiece encourages you to:

  • Release the hurt and the pain that you have been carrying around and unconsciously holding onto.
  • Reconnect with the deeper sense of you, and who you are. Become more intimate with your intuition, your higher self, and your soul. Commit to learning who you are, beyond the everyday conditioning that you have either developed or been taught.
  • Remember your most pure self from when you were younger. This is a continuous process that you take with you while you live forward. You remember your power and take it with you going forward.

I just want to remind people that are listening of how powerful we are at the soul level … This world that we live in divides us, we get labeled, we get put into categories or boxes … Allowing myself to remember and step into that light and not be afraid to let that light shine to the world has been such a transformative process for me.

Everyone is connected, so the more that you heal yourself, the more that you uplift the community and the world around you.
